Halloween


This week it's Halloween. Here are som facts about it:

  • Halloween is celebrated, the 31st of October and is thought to be the one night of the year when ghosts and witches are extra active.
  • Halloween is one of the oldest celebrations in the world, over 2000 years old.
  • The name comes from ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ when people celebrated saints
  • It is thought that the colours orange and black became Halloween colours because orange stands for harvest and black for death.
  • A pumpkin is really a squash, and comes from the same family as the cucumber. Pumkins are carved and used as lanterns.
  • Ringing a bell scares evil spirits away.
  • Bonfires are lit to scare evil spirits away.
  • If you see a spider on this night, it could be the spirit of a dead loved one who is watching you.
  • To meet a witch, put your clothes on inside out and walk backwards on Halloween night.
  • Children dress up as monsters or ghosts and knock on doors and says ”Trick or treat”. If they don’t get sweets they will do a prank.
